Thornwick and Sea Farm Wetland Creation

Thornwick and Sea Farm Holiday Centre wetland creation is a joint project between Wold Ecology, Flamborough Holiday Ltd and Flamborough Bird Observatory.

Wold Ecology donated £700 to the creation of a bird hide at Thornwick pools.  We enlisted the expert skills of Green Future Building (GFB), a new and independent social enterprise, who constructed the hide from Carbon neutral, fire resistant, recycled plastic.  We also commissioned an interpretation board, using the wonderful artwork of Ben Green.

Thanks to this new hide, you can now see birds difficult to see elsewhere on the Flamborough Headland; such as little stint, wood sandpiper and water rail; even the odd rarity, like the superb male citrine wagtail which dropped in at the pools in May 2012.

The next stage of work at Thornwick Wetland will be completed in winter 2012/13 and has been financed by a fantastic grant of £6,500 from Green Business Network via the Landfill Communities Fund. Volunteers from FBO and YCN alongside the GFB team will extend the wader habitat and integrate an artificial sand martin colony into the landscape.
